I would love to see some of my flash fiction published. I nearly succeeded with Daily Science Fiction, a very good setup that publishes very short fiction. My story is called "The Care And Feeding Of Your Pet Dragon". It hasn't been accepted yet, but I'm still working on it to make sure it eventually is accepted.

Flash fiction is works of approximately 1,000 words or less. I've tried my hand at it for fun and it's quite the exercise. Not a single word is wasted and you don't waste time on extemporaneous speech. Some flash fiction is only two sentences. Here are some examples of scary two sentence flash fiction shorts that really creeped me out. Can you beat them?
I begin tucking him into bed and he tells me, "Daddy, check for monsters under my bed." I look underneath for his amusement and see him, another him, under the bed, staring back at me quivering and whispering, "Daddy, there's somebody on my bed." The last thing I saw was my alarm clock flashing 12:07 before she pushed her long rotting nails through my chest, her other hand muffling my screams. I sat bolt upright, relieved it was only a dream, but as I saw my alarm clock read 12:06, I heard my closet door creak open. After working a hard day, I came home to see my girlfriend cradling our child. I didn't know which was more frightening, seeing my dead girlfriend and stillborn child, or knowing that someone broke into my apartment to place them there.
I hope you enjoyed the flash fiction scary stories. As most people who know me know, I enjoy dark fiction and horror very much. I've written erotic horror. That said, there are also some good flash fiction romances out there. One good site is Romance Flash. Some of the stories are quite good.

So why not give flash fiction a try? It's a great writing exercise. You'll learn to be succinct very quickly.

Part 1: Favourite Paranormal Creatures

So BLMorticia recently talked about one of her favourite spots on a guy. Ok, it was a couple months ago but time flies so fast that it feels fairly recent still.

Back on track. It got me thinking; her main genre is erotica, and that is a fairly erotic spot, that V over the hips. My main genre is paranormal, so why not talk about something that I love from the paranormal world.

Well, it was too hard for me to pick one, so over the coming months I'll be talking a little about my favourite paranormal creatures. I'm kicking it off with my namesake, the Phoenix.

We all know the basic mythology. The fiery bird with a long life that bursts into flames and is reborn from the ashes. A beautiful metaphor, I felt drawn to the Phoenix when I started writing again.

I had become filled with melancholy, and a large part of it stemmed from my lack of creativity. In most part, I had given up hope of writing any story at all, let alone having other people read it. But I was encouraged to give it another shot, and that spark soon grew into a roaring fire, giving me new purpose for me, as my own person, and I flew with it.

It's an obvious paranormal creature to appreciate, but that doesn't make it any less beautiful and mysterious. There is the obvious tale of being reborn from fire, and it certainly is more glamorous than some alternative theories.

It has always been shown with a nimbus with rays around its head, like the Greek God
Helios, or to have wonderful plumage on it's head, or even compared to a rooster with a large crest. There are many thoughts on the exact colouring, from that of a peacock to the red and yellow associated with the fire from which it gains new life in the popular myth, and the sun which it is said to represent in others.

It's one of those creatures that are featured in the cultural, artistic and religious history of many countries, each giving it their own flavour, their own twist.

Whatever this bird looks like or represents to the person imagining it, what we can agree on is that it is a wonderful metaphor, and I would personally love to see more stories incorporate this noble, if mythological, feathered creature.

I'm not quite sure which creature I'll talk about next week, but I promise I will have some sexy pictures next time. *wink*

Just Imagine:

Emma has only one thing on her mind, Paul. Every day she works alongside him as she battles to control the daydreams that see them both naked in a dance of lust, does Paul even know that she exists?

Excerpt (Anytime, Anyplace):

I was reminded of other people in the restaurant when the waiter reached for my empty starter dish. He raised an eyebrow when my lustful gaze crossed his face as l pulled it away from Shaun’s.
The main course arrived. Though my appetite was distracted by my lover’s lips once again tasting the wine.
I lifted a forkful of food and sampled the explosion of flavour.
“This salsa is lovely.” I declared.
“I would like to see you salsa,” Shaun replied, “Preferably naked.”
I laughed but then he leaned forward and lowered his voice to a husky whisper,
“Dance for me baby, l want to watch you, l really do.”
“I don’t know how to salsa.” I spoke as quietly as him.
“Just take your clothes off and move around, l want you to.”
His eyes bore through me and l shivered in anticipation of them feasting on my body as l writhed before him, suddenly all my hunger was in a different part of my body.
“Getting a little uncomfortable?” Shaun teased.
I was beginning to think it hadn’t been my best idea to leave the panties at home as l shifted a little in my seat and tried not to watch the food slipping into that sensual mouth to be turned and churned by that very capable tongue. My breathing became a little laboured and Shaun lowered his eyes to my breasts which were rising and falling more obviously than usual as l tried to breathe deeper and relax.
“I need to get you out of that dress.” Shaun purred.
I nodded.
“Here Baby, try this.” Shaun held a forkful of chicken and l leaned in to take it from him. A slow moan escaped me as the fusion of fine spices melted across the surface of my tongue.
“It’s so good.” I purred.
Shaun shifted and his expression grew darker.

Excerpt (Insatiable):

In the evenings Amber would take a bus into the next town. She would dress up in slinky evening dresses that would hug her enviable figure and show off her long legs.
Amber would sit alone in swanky wine bars waiting to be approached. This would never take long; sometimes she would time how long it took just for her own satisfaction. The feeling of so many male eyes following the contours of her body thrilled her so much that excitement pricked at her tawny skin. Occasionally she would glance back at a group of curious men to encourage them with a shy smile. It was always the alpha male in the group who would approach her first, the brave, confident man. Though every now and then Amber hankered after the shyest member of the group she rarely waited for his approach.
The game would begin; she would be bought a drink and then flattered relentlessly while her brave suitor’s friends looked on enviously. Amber would tease her prey, making him believe that it was he who was the predator. More drinks would follow, though Amber would never go beyond three. Compliments would be whispered into her ear behind the sparkling diamond earrings that were a gift from a grateful lover. His body would move closer until warmth began to seep into her skin through her receptive pores. Amber would gaze up and listen to every word, how beautiful her eyes were, how silky her hair and how stunning she looked in her clingy dress.
All these compliments nourished Amber; she needed them constantly and she would look up adoringly into the earnest face of the man standing so close that their bodies would be touching. Her lovers never missed their cue. When Amber flashed her eyes and lightly touched an arm there would be no need to clarify unspoken words. They would leave the building together to incredulous, covetous glances from the bereft friends.

Inspiration for Under the Gun, series Hardy and Day

David Taylor Camdyn Hardy
Hey again folks. This is resident bad girl BL with exciting news about my next book, Under the Gun. WOOT.

So, if you’ve been following the muses of Sharita Lira, then you know this was Michael Mandrake’s story. Yeah, I know, right? The first story where Michael really pushes the envelope.

*laughs*

Well unfortunately, the company that pubbed UTG folded and when Shar decided to re-release, she turned it over to me. Yep, me since I am the bad girl and this is more my type of thing. You know what I like to write so a story with two hot men looking for love along with strange kinks should appeal.Hell yes it does and so here I am since G decided to gave UTG a chance once again.

So what exactly is Under the Gun? It’s an interracial m/m romance about a two men who come from different paths but find out just how much they have in common. Malik Day is a discharged soldier under the now defunct DADT policy while Camdyn Hardy is a private investigator who just lost his lover when he decided homosexuality wasn’t for him.
Tyson Beckford Malik Day

Michael got the idea from a sub call he answered and well, they didn’t accept it. Thank goodness Michael stuck with the idea and Malik and Cam got a much longer story. Ooh and then a series. Yep, this will be three or four books. Michael wrote the first two and I’ll be adding my own little special touches. With the last ones, it will be all BL. Nice to share one head right? *giggles* Ah we work Shar to death!

So what music did Michael use to write this? Since the story is a romance with two very interesting characters; both headstrong, stubborn, proud, and alpha, he chose some metal. Some Sevendust and Ministry for the angst, some Nine Inch Nails. For the calmer and more tension filled moments, Depeche Mode. For the love scenes, some smooth R&B like Sade. For the kinky portion, back to NIN and he says Sanctified was the tune.

Michael described the tone as seductive with an edge. He added it put him in a particularly interesting mood for the whole book as well as every sexy encounter with Cam and Malik.

Oh and the faces he picked? Jeezus, could they get any cuter! Wow. Former porn star David Taylor and hot model Tyson Beckford. Yummeh! I think they look good together, don’t you?

Look for Under the Gun sometime this year.

Warning: Gun Play and hot sex between two men ahead. A previously published work written before the DADT repeal.

Life can be such a bitch

After Tay left me for a woman, there was no question I needed relief. I decided to let off some steam at the driving range and look who I find; a hot looking soldier ready for battle and what I wouldn’t do to be in the trenches with him but could I get over the trust issues I had to get this beautiful specimen in my bed?
I’m Camdyn Hardy and the man I’m after is Malik Day, a soldier discharged under the DADT policy for defending a fellow gay soldier when homophobic fucks were trying to beat his ass. He’s looking for a job and a lover.  He’s just the right fit if you ask me but will he get over his stupid pride so he can move from under his bible thumping parent’s roof to mine?

This is our fucking lives and we’re standing in the way of our own happiness!

Excerpt

Some days are better than others and most could be a hell of a lot better, but when you get into a fight with your significant of the moment, what else can be done? I wished we could’ve avoided it but, there was no way to do so.
When my boyfriend and I worked on a case together we almost slipped up because of our encounter on the job. It was at my insistence too which made it even worse. Our client wasn’t amused when he literally caught us with our pants down and almost fired us from the case. Still, we got the job done. My man continued to tell me to wait until we were safe and out of sight but my horniness wouldn’t allow it.
After the episode, Tay started to have second thoughts about our relationship. Seemingly, he thought we lost focus by working with one another and we should split up. I shook my head and told him it wasn’t a good reason but he vehemently disagreed about us going on with this work/play scenario.
Even though I promised I’d be more of a good boy he decided to move on, and left every tie to Camdyn & Associates behind. I knew he still loved me, but I heard from mutual friends that Tay was on the fence again, spending a lot of time with a female. I’d been preparing myself for my down low lover to take a hike so when he walked out, it wasn’t a surprise. This taught me not to deal with anyone unsure about their sexuality ever again. I needed someone totally real and gay like me.
With my hands tightly gripping the wheel, I drove away from my office and made the sharp turn at the corner to enter the freeway. Anger building inside of me, I needed to press or push something to release some of the tension. The gas pedal was the only option. When I got on I floored it, quickly approaching eighty. With my foul mood, I dared someone to pull me over.
How would I dispel these ill feelings? I knew of one way but it wasn’t in my best interest to go murdering someone when was a man of the law. The other option was sex. Getting it from a down low fuck club I had lifetime membership to called the Pinkhole. I really could have settled for an anonymous lay but they wouldn’t want to play that game I loved to play with Tay; the forbidden one that carried all kinds of risks. Let’s just say it involved our affinity of guns, violence, and rough sex. How did we mix a weapon into our down low union? You’ll have to use your imagination to figure that out.

Within a few minutes, I made it home. It felt good to be there after such a menacing day. “What am I so upset for?” This would be a great time to start looking for a new partner in life and business. Tay and I loved each other but weren’t in love. There was always that rift between us that couldn’t be broken down and now that he’d left me, I needed to find another man who wouldn’t have the same hang-ups.
